Explorer Allen Carpe in British Columbia on expedition with Rollin T. Chamberlin, professor of Geology at the University of Chicago, during which the men climbed Mount Sir John Abbott (Kiwa Peak). Mr. Carpe died on Mount McKinley in May 1932 while observing and measuring cosmic rays on behalf of physicist Arthur Holly Compton.
