Physicists Leo Szilard (left) and Norman Hilberry (right) at the site where the world’s first nuclear reactor stood on the University of Chicago's Stagg Field during World War II. Dr. Szilard and Dr. Hilberry worked with the late Enrico Fermi to achieve the initial self-sustained chain reaction of nuclear energy, December 2, 1942, which led to the development of the atomic bomb.
