Enrico Fermi and Laura Fermi in his study at the University of Chicago’s Institute for Nuclear Studies. During World War II, Dr. Fermi was a member of the university’s Metallurgical Laboratory, and joined the faculty when war ended. Laura Fermi, who is interested in her husband’s current theories about the nucleus of the atom, is the author of a book on Physics, as well as the popular work, "Atoms in the family: my life with Enrico Fermi."
