Description | Philanthropist Elizabeth Green Kelly donated funds for the construction of the Classics Building at the University of Chicago. Known as the Hiram Kelly Memorial in honor of her last husband, work began 27 February 1914, and the corner stone was laid 9 June by Frank Bigelow Tarbell, professor of Classical Archaeology. The building's dedication took place little more than a year later on 14 June 1915. |
