Hiltner and Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar on the Yerkes Observatory expedition to Pine River, Manitoba, Canada, July 9, 1945. The camera was equipped with a 4-inch lens; exposure was 20 seconds. Two-thirds of corona (outer envelope) which extended 2,000, 000 miles beyond the sun’s surface is pictured. |
