| Description | Japanese architect Masamichi Kuru designed the Ho-o-den (Phoenix Hall) for the World's Columbian Exposition (1892-1893) modeling it on the Kyoto temple, the Hō-ō-dō (1052). Situated on Wooded Isle during the fair, the Ho-o-den was later moved to Jackson Park and functioned as a tea house. The building was destroyed by a fire in 1943. |
