Description | Sirius, the dog of Yerkes Observatory director George Ellery Hale and his wife Evelina Conklin Hale. He is lying (foreground right) in the yard of Harbert House where the Hales lived from 1895 to 1897. Hale used the telescope in the background to detect solar corona without an eclipse during the months of July and August 1895. |
