Description | Big Trees Grove, Felton, California, established as the first redwood resort and first preserved grove of sequoia sempirvirens in 1867. This photo depicts the Fremont group of redwoods with the resort’s hotel in the background. Within the Fremont group, a man stands next to the General Fremont Tree in the center; two ladies stand next to the Three Sisters (specifically the Fallen Sister, the hollow based tree which later fell), and on the far left is the Jumbo (named after the famous P.T. Barnum circus elephant). |
