Alfred Cowles III, founder and president of the Cowles Commission for Research in Economics. A non-profit organization, the Commission was established to investigate economic problems, primarily by integrating economic theory with the quantitative approach of mathematics and statistics. Located in Colorado Springs, its headquarters will move to the University of Chicago this autumn.
