Aaron Novick, associate professor of Microbiology and member of the Committee on Biophysics at the University of Chicago. Dr. Novick takes a sampling of bacterial culture from a chemostat, a device which automatically controls the growth rate of bacteria. In the laboratory it is used to study gene mutations.
