University of Chicago president Ernest Cadman Colwell pours concrete for the foundation of a 170-inch Cyclotron, which will be housed in the new Ion Accelerator Building. The unit is the first to be built in the university's 12,000,000-dollar nuclear research program. The cyclotron will be used in atomic and cancer research.
