Description | Tablet in bas-relief depicts Sidney A. Kent, president of the Chicago Packing & Provision Company, director of the Chicago Board of Trade, and president of the Corn Exchange Bank. A philanthropist, Mr. Kent provided the funds to build, furnish, and equip the Kent Chemical Laboratory at the University of Chicago. The tablet inscription reads: This building is dedicated to a fundamental science, in the hope that it will be a foundation stone laid broad and deep for the temple of knowledge in which as we live, we have life. |
