At the December 19, 1952 convocation of the University of Chicago, Learned Hand (left), judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, received a Doctor of Laws degree, and Arthur Holly Compton (center), chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis, was awarded a Doctor of Science degree. Judge Hand and Dr. Holly are pictured with Lawrence A. Kimpton (right) chancellor of the University of Chicago.
