Maurine Moss, foster daughter of activist, journalist, and teacher Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Her father Thomas H. Moss, a postman and grocery store owner, was lynched in Memphis, Tennessee, 9 March 1892, an event which compelled Mrs. Wells-Barnett to begin her anti-lynching crusade.
