Ethiopia Expedition 1
I: Individuals and Groups
A team led by F. Clark Howell, professor in the department of Anthropology at the University of Chicago found fossil remains of Australopithecines, some of which are almost 4,000,000 years old, in the Omo River Valley of southern Ethiopia in 1968. Several of the finds are arranged on a map of Africa with the location of the Omo Beds highlighted. At left is half of a juvenile Australopithecine's jaw, and at right, the lower jaw of an adult Australopithecine, the largest ever found.
