Philip B. Kurland (seated left), the William R. Kenan Jr. Distinguished Service Professor in the College and the Law School at the University of Chicago, and Ralph Lerner (at lectern), professor in the Committee on Social Thought. They are pictured with Morris Philipson (standing), director of the University Press, at the presentation of the Gordon J. Laing Prize. Awarded to faculty members for works of distinction, Mr. Kurland and Mr. Lerner won for The Founders' Constitution, a five-volume set about the origins of the U.S. constitution, for which they served as co-editors.
