Description | Albert V. Crewe (standing, left), the William E. Wrather Distinguished Service Professor (1977-1996) in Physics, and dean of the Physical Sciences division (1971-1981) at the University of Chicago. Dr. Crewe served also as the director of Argonne National Laboratory (1961-1967). He is pictured with students John P. Langmore (standing, right) and Joseph S. Wall (seated), reading the display panel of the scanning electron microscope they designed, built, and used to reveal the atom for the first time. |
