Zero Gradient Synchrotron 8
II: Buildings and Grounds
Section of the Zero Gradient Synchrotron magnet ring, one of eight guide magnets weighing more than 500 tons each. These magnets are pulsed to 22.5 kilogauss once every four seconds to keep protons in orbit through the ring as they gain energy. A beam tunnel leading to the proton experiment building is in the background.
