Operated jointly by the Universities of Texas and Chicago, McDonald Observatory is located atop 6,825-foot Mount Locke in West Texas. The crystal-clear atmosphere provides astronomers with one of the best available observation sites in the world. The 73-foot dome houses 30 electric precision motors and the latest astronomical equipment available in the world of science.
