| Description | Dr. Franz Weidenreich reconstructed this skull of Peking Woman (front view, center) who lived 500,000 years ago. It is thought to be the oldest representative of the human race thus far found, and is contrasted with the skull of a gorilla (left) and the skull of a modern man from northern China (right). One of the three casts of Peking Woman's skull has been placed on exhibit at the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute museum. |
