From Northwest 1
II: Buildings and Grounds
The Joseph Regenstein Library of the University of Chicago was designed by Walter Netsch of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and completed in 1970. The library, which has a capacity of 3.5 million volumes, provides highly efficient access to a broad range of research and reference material. The Joseph Regenstein Library contains 577,045 gross square feet. Modern in design, the $21 million facility harmonizes with the Gothic architecture of the campus.
