Description | Funerary vessels, ca. 500 BCE. Two large jars placed mouth to mouth to contain a body of which one jar has been broken away to reveal skeletal remains that were clothed in cloth and leather, and buried with grave goods. A joint University of Chicago-University of Pennsylvania expedition to the city of Nippur in Iraq discovered the burial beneath the living quarter of scribes. |
