Description | Medallion of a winged and horned lion medallion (4 inches), ca. 500 BCE, jewelry from the period of the Achaemenid rulers Darius and Xerxes. It is the largest single piece of fifty-four Persian gold pieces in the collection newly acquired by the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute, and was displayed for the institute's thirtieth anniversary. |
