Heed De Gaulle and defy Hitler! Free French leader General Charles De Gaulle had asked for protests against the German execution of hostages in France, and members of the American Student Union at the University of Chicago complied by hanging Hitler in effigy. Alice Solomon (at the desk) takes names of those who joined the demonstration. Photograph taken at the Reynolds Club Cloisters.
