Title | Greater Chicago |
View | Green Line Train Tracks 5 |
Series | VII: Chicago Maroon |
Description | View of unused elevated rail tracks for the Chicago Green Line over 63rd Street at Dorchester Avenue. The Dorchester station had been torn down in 1973, and old tracks were removed. In 1982, the nearby Jackson Park station was closed. These new tracks were constructed in 1994 as part of a Chicago Transit Authority plan to restore service, but opposition from a group of Woodlawn residents led the city to demolish the tracks in 1997 (3rd of 9 photographs). |
