William Henry Welch, dean of the medical faculty, and the Baxley Professor of Pathology at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Welch delivered the address, "Medicine and the University," at the convocation of the University of Chicago, 17 December 1907, and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at the convocation of 6 June 1916.
