| Description | America, symbolizing civilization encompassing the indigenous people and animals of the New World was a reproduction of one of Earth's four quarters, bronze sculptural portions of the Albert Memorial, Kensington Gardens, London, designed by John Henry Foley. Asia, Africa, and Europe comprise the other three groups. The copy of America stood in front of the British Building at the World's Columbian Exposition, as a gift to Chicago and a memorial to the Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert and was cast by the Doultons. |
