Thomas Chrowder Chamberlin (left, seated), professor of Geology and Forest R. Moulton (right, standing), professor of Astronomy at the University of Chicago, who advanced the Chamberlin-Moulton Planetesimal Hypothesis in 1905. The theory, which posited that planets of the solar system formed from the collision of debris ejected from sun, is no longer thought to be viable.
