Description | Eugene M. K. Geiling studies the radioactivity of a tagged opium poppy grown in radioactive carbon dioxide atmosphere. The plant takes in the carbon dioxide and the tagged carbon travels to every part of its tissues. The drug is extracted and injected into animals to discover how it functions in living bodies. Dr. Geiling is the Frank P. Hixon Distinguished Service Professor, and chairman of the department of Pharmacology at the University of Chicago. |
