Ceremony held to mark the naming of a Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) in honor of Amos Alonzo Stagg, athletic director, professor of Physical Culture and Athletics, head football coach at the University of Chicago (1892-1932), and head coach at the University of the Pacific (1932-1946). The tree, said to be the world's 5th largest Giant Sequoia (board feet volume), stands in Alder Creek Grove, Tulare County California.
