President Ernest Cadman Colwell of the University of Chicago pours the first concrete in the Ion Accelerator Building for the foundation for the 170-inch Cyclotron to be used in atomic and cancer research. The Ion Accelerator Building is the first unit in the university's 12,000,000-dollar program for nuclear research.
