Cobalt 60 Unit 1
II: Buildings and Grounds
Technician assists patient into the Cobalt-60 machine for the treatment of cancer at Argonne Cancer Research Hospital. The machine allows higher than ever doses of radiation to tumorous tissues. The radioactive cobalt rotates around the patient, who lies on a bed at the center of the axis, sparing the normal tissues through which the radiation must pass to reach the tumor.
