Series | II: Buildings and Grounds |
Description | Flint Michigan industrialist Charles Stewart Mott (center), University of Chicago chancellor Lawrence A. Kimpton (left), and Robert K. Burns, the Industrial Relations Center's executive officer (right) at the cornerstone ceremony (Wednesday afternoon, April 23) of the Mott Building in which the Center will be located. Among the items placed in the cornerstone box are a tape recording of speeches and predictions made at an Industry, Education, and the Community conference that preceded the cornerstone's laying. That recording and one of the luncheon meeting speech given by Mr. Mott will be removed from the box in 1991 when the University observes the centennial of its founding. The Mott Foundation donated $1,000,000 of the $1,300,000 cost of the building. |
