II: Buildings and Grounds
Kent Chemical Laboratory was the first building completed on the University of Chicago campus that was dedicated to the teaching of science. The tablet installed in the building hallway carries a quote from the donor Sidney A. Kent. It reads, "This building is dedicated to a fundamental science in the hope that it will be a foundation stone laid broad and deep for the temple of knowledge in which as we live we have life."
