Description | John D. Rockefeller Jr. presented the Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Carillon to the University of Chicago in memory of his mother. Installed in the university's chapel, it was dedicated Thanksgiving Day, 1932. Consisting of 72 bells, including a bass bell weighing 18.5-tons, the carillon was cast in Croydon, England by the foundry of Gillett & Johnston. |
