Description | Procession of dignitaries going to the dedication of the William Rainey Harper Memorial Library on the University of Chicago campus. Attended by delegates from 60 other academic institutions, the ceremonies were held in conjunction with the school's 83rd convocation. Among those pictured is author and educator Booker T. Washington (far left), founder of Alabama's Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute. The photograph was a gift of James Nash Vincent. |
