Iraq Expedition 16
III: Events
Junius Daniels, the Oriental Institute's preparator, and sculptor Donato Bastiani are restoring a stone man-bull which once guarded the gateway of the Assyrian King Sargon II's (8th-century BCE) palace at Dur Sharrukin (Khorsabad), but is now housed in the museum. In 1929, the bull was unearthed in fragments from palace ruins by the late Dr. Edward Chiera and an Institute expedition.
