Two miles from the Persepolis terrace, the Oriental Institute's Persian Expedition discovered one of the oldest Stone Age villages ever found. Aerial view showing a trial trench (oblique line of shadow at right) that Professor Ernst Herzfeld, the expedition's field director, had dug through the mound.
