Six of 500 high school students gathered for tests at the University of Chicago, march through the arch toward the examination room, hopeful of winning scholarships. From left: Nancy Kerr; Dolores Jean Lowe, a Chinese-American student at Harrison Tech; Daphne Woolf, from Middlesex, England; Boria Zlatich, from University High; Virginia Darrow; and, Kay Woodruff. Highest passers in aptitude tests will win university scholarships and, according to the new Chicago plan, will be graduated at 18.
