Description | Cone-shaped sample of carbon quickly becomes white hot as it is lowered into atomic vapor produced by a new water-stabilized arc developed at the University of Chicago. Temperature of the electric arc is over 25,000 degrees Fahrenheit, twice as hot as the surface of the sun. |
