| Description | Relief and inscription of Darius, King of Persia, on the Rock of Behistun in Iran. An archaeological expedition sponsored by the American Schools of Oriental Research and the University of Michigan will copy the inscription carved on each side and beneath the relief of Darius. An overhanging rock, left of the relief, bears an inscription written in the Babylonian language; beneath it, the same inscription is found in three columns written in the Elamite language; and, five columns below the relief were written in Old Persian, the language of Darius. To the right of the relief are four additional columns of inscription that have hitherto not been copied or translated. |
